Danny: I arrived here in Manila about two weeks ago! My flight is planned to leave September 9 but we will see ;).

L: Sounds good. Okay, tell us more about yourself.

D: I am originally from a small town of about 5,000 in South Dakota. The state where Mt. Rushmore is in case you don't know :p I am definitely a sports person, growing up I made sure to try just about every sport, I even use to Rodeo! haha but overall, I am a family man! Being raised mainly by my mother and grandparents.

D: I have been truly blessed with the places and things that i have been able to do in my life! This is my first traveling to Asia, and hopefully its not my last!

D: I am planning on staying here in the Philippines for 3 months. If work keeps going like it is, I just may have to extend for a little longer:)
So far i really am enjoying it here. I have met some really great people in my short time that i have been here.

Two Students Killed In Cult Clash At Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko

 While Nigerian students abroad are making the country proud, the ones at home are busy killing them selves. *SMH*.

Two students of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko have been confirmed dead in a cult related crisis that engulfed the institution yesterday.
The death occurred against the backdrop of reports that the Benue State Police Command  recovered a box full of AK 47 live ammunition  from four suspects who were hauling the arms to the crisis torn Eggon and Alaago communities of Nasarawa State.
Briefing newsmen yesterday on the two incidents, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, ASP  Ejike Alaribe said the police in Gboko last night received a report that two suspected cultists had at 8pm stormed the home of two students of Fidei Polytechnic and shot one of them whose

Alaribe said further that two other suspects identified as having a hand in the shooting were also arrested by the police.
On the recovered box of AK47 live ammunition, he said, the four suspects were arrested with the ammunition along the Makurdi-Lafia road by men of the joint operation task force christened ‘Operation Zenda” following a directive by the state Commisdioner of Police that patrols be intensified throughout the state.
He said the suspects who were riding in a Peugeot wagon with registration number Lagos, BE 222 KRD were flagged down for routine check by the security operatives but declined.
”Our men pursued them; they tried to run into the bush, but our men caught up with them and arrested them with minimal force and when a thorough search was conducted on the car and the suspects, the box of live ammunition, charms, knives, N96,500 cash, and three hand sets were recovered from the suspects”, the Deputy PPRO added.

Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion,Faces Jail Time

 

Lauryn Hill is definitely not having the best of times right now.

The soul singer faces possible jail time over tax evasion allegations.

She pled guilty to three counts of failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007. The singer reportedly earned more than $1.8 million during that period.

In addition to her possible 3 year jail time, she would pay $75,000 in fines.

When Lauryn Hill was asked by the judge if her action was "intentionally and willingly" (her failure to pay her taxes) she replied, "Yes."

She was released on $150,000 bail.

According to TMZ......

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting divorced after 5 years of marriage. Katie's attorney, Jonathan Wolfe released a statement saying, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family."

Wolfe adds, "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

It's unclear if divorce papers have been filed with the court. Tom and Katie have one child together, Suri, who is 6-years-old.

Even though Katie is asking for a "suitable amount of child support" Tmz also claims they have a prenup.

Nigerian Man Graduates With CGPA Of 4.00 From Eastern Mediterranean University

Another Nigerian student in Cyprus made the country proud this week.

Tunji Anthony Olu-Taiwo from the Faculty of engineering at the Eastern Mediterranean University in the Turkish republic of North Cyprus graduated with High Honours (First class).

He finished with a Grade Point Average of 4.00 out of a possible 4.00.

His dream is to become a reputable Software Engineer . Woowww!!! I'm Speechless.

I noticed one thing in those pics though…Tunji dear when you are ready, come back to Naija for a wife because the body language I’m seeing in the pic with the white ladies…..*my eyes are on you girls (lady on the left...yes yoouu)*. When I saw these pictures I was shocked. If this boy had been this woman’s biological child, would she have done this? Nothing justifies this at all, no matter the provocation.

I thought the era of “wicked step mother” was over.

The increasing rate of home abuse, wife battery, especially child molestation, maltreating, and abuse now is very alarming and calls for serious and quick intervention by all. I got this story from a friend and though it’s worth sharing.
Ola is in a critical condition as I write. He is under serious intensive care in a hospital around Igando area of Lagos. His step-mum who works with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service took laws into and hands and punished him for beating her little daughter by pouring hot water on him while asleep.
“The argument that led to the sad incident started when my step-mum saw me beat my sister” recalls Ola, she got very angry and wanted to harm me back in anger, she reached for and did all she could physically, I tried to defend myself but she overpowered me. She got more furious after my father and some

neighbors tried to stop her, and she started scattering the house and even broke bottles. My uncle who also lives around was able to drag her away from the house, and she slept
over at his’ that night. I was still sleeping on my bed the next morning, when I she walked into my room and bathed me with hot water; I staggered to the living room and saw my father and uncle. That was the last I remembered before I passed out and woke at the hospital.

The father said his brother came into the house around 4:30am the next morning to settle the rift that occurred the previous day; they all sat in the living room, when the wife stood up and went into the kitchen. She was going in and out, and they thought she was preparing herself for work, not until Ola walked out of the room, looking weak and skin peeled, and fainted on the ground. We quickly rushed him to the hospital, while she stood staring and mocking him for calling out for help.
The case has been reported at the police station, while the boy is still at the hospital wallowing in serious pain, and the step-mum on the run.

Victim Of Jim Iyke’s Alleged Fraud Cries Out …. “The Case Was Only Discharged For Amicable Settlement and Not Thrown Out”

  Contrary to the gist that has been going round, the court case between Nollywood actor Jim Iyke and Abuja based business woman, Mrs Abubakar is still on.

"Dear Sir/Madam,

Our notice has been drawn to an article published on your blog and other media and we have been mandated to put the facts straight.

We would like to say categorically that the accused (Mr. Jim Iyke) confessed to all the charges that were brought against him which said charges includes criminal breach of trust, assault, criminal force, cheating, criminal misappropriation and obtaining by tricks etc.

Pursuant to his confession and guilty plea, the accused ( Mr. Jim Iyke) would have been sent to jail but for the magnanimity of the victim, Mrs Abubakar who, after listening to all the pleading from Jim's family that he was their bread winner, decided to temper justice with mercy.

We expect that Mr. Jim Iyke will concentrate on finding ways of fulfilling the debt repayment agreement signed by him rather than the unnecessary show of braggadocio and deliberate misinformation, as the agreement clearly states that should he default on two consecutive installment payments, the case will be re-opened, all waivers suspended, and the law will take its cause.

He remains liable and must desist from bringing the court, the law enforcement officers and all parties involved to disrepute or the full wrath of the law will be brought upon him.

Two days back we celebrated the achievement of  22 year old Emmanuel Ohuabunwa                , news just filtered in that 21 year old Chibundu Onuzo has just been named UK’s Number 1 best black student.

The award was given by Rare Rising Stars. With this award, she is the first woman to top the list.

The 21 year old who got her first book deal at age 1 9, while still an undergraduate student at King’s College London, (she signed a two novel deal with U.K. publishing heavy weight, Faber & Faber), was also profiled by CNN when Nigeria marked her 50^th independence anniversary.

I Caught My ex-Commissioner Wife Pants Down.... Romancing A Man In The Car....Politician Tells Court

When a home is broken, the stories that go along with it  are simply unbelievable. Long read ahead.

David Erhabor, husband of a former commissioner in Edo State, Florence Igbinigie-Erhabor, on Wednesday, told a Benin High Court, that his wife of 15 years once came home without putting on pant.

He said, “There was a day she came back home drunk and without a pant on her. She was in the habit of keeping late nights.”

David while testifying in a divorce suit, No HAB/16D/2011, instituted by his wife, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, under Chief Lucky Igbinedion, told the court he did not envisage a broken home in his life.

The respondent said trouble started after his wife was appointed commissioner, after which he said she began keeping late nights.

David, an ex-Senior Adviser to former Governor Oswerhiemen Osunbor, told the court that there was a time the wife abandoned their two children, absconded from home for three days, “only to be caught red-handed inside a vehicle, romancing and

 kissing a man who had earlier gassed him.”

David recalled that it took the intervention of a former chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Community Development Commission, Chief Wellington Okrika, to resolve some of their matrimonial crises.

He also said his wife had once demanded N1m from him before she could allow him to have sex with her, adding that on another occasion, he ran from home when he sensed that his wife was planning to send hired assassins after him.

On the custody of their children, David said they could always stay with whoever they chose when on holidays.

Florence among other prayers is asking the court to grant her divorce on the grounds of threat to life, violent assault and infidelity on the part of her husband.

The former commissioner, who has since 2009 separated from her husband, is demanding that she should be paid N150, 000 as monthly upkeep for each of their children. She also wants Erhabor to be compelled to pay the children’s school fees.

While being crossed-examined by David’s lawyer, Mr. Akakhomen Austine, Florence said her husband had at a time squeezed the children inside a vehicle and threatened to set them ablaze. She said it took the intervention of members of both families to broker peace.

The former commissioner said she had been solely responsible for the children’s upkeep, including payment of their school fees over the past years.

She added that the children had been living in her family house where she relocated to when she suspected that her husband was after her life.

She also accused David of having extra-marital affair with their housemaid.

Justice Anthony Erhabor adjourned the case till August 4 for further hearing.

Magic Mike’s Philippine play date

I was expecting that Magic Mike’s Philippine play date was the same as its US play date…

Readers were already asking me when the Philippine play date and that was when I was confused so I researched online but to no avail…

Today, I was able to visit the mall and asked when it will be released, the cinema lady advised that it will be shown by July 11, 2012.

Guess my birthday gift came in late. :-/

It’s good news for Majek Fashek. Word has it that he has signed a two year touring deal with A PLUS entertainment. The deal which is allegedly worth N15m will see him tour some European countries.    Nigeria's former President Olusegun Obasanjo granted The Guardian Uk an interview where he talked about corruption and investment opportunities in Nigeria. Excerpts......

"There is no part of the world where corruption is absolutely eliminated. But [in other countries] that corruption has not been a way of life. When you are found, you are dealt with. And that's what we need."

Chief Obasanjo who was in the UK to promote investment in Nigeria disclosed that “Fighting corruption is not a one-night affair.”

But for all the optimism surrounding Nigeria, inequity and underdevelopment remain. In Lagos, the commercial capital, Victoria Island has some of the world's most

“The givers of most of the corruption in Africa are from outside Africa,” he said. “They do in Africa, they would not do in their own countries. In my part of the world, we have a saying that the man who carries a pot of palm oil from the ceiling is not the only thief. He has an accomplice in the man who helps him to bring it down. The giver and the taker are criminals, and they should be treated as such.”
Former President Obasanjo is now working as a roving ambassador, facilitating companies’ entry into the country and the rest of Africa. He said he believes that positive examples of business success will encourage avaricious minds to look for more legitimate routes to wealth.

“I still believe in the opportunities that Africa affords to make legitimate money. Africa is one place I believe that if you are courageous enough, you get the money, you can invest and get 25% return on your investment annually. There aren’t many places in the world where you can get that return,” he said

President Goodluck Jonathan Fires NNPC Boss, Engr. Austen Oniwon

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the re-composition of the executive management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

This was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, who said the decision of the President was to further strengthen the ongoing reforms and transformation of Nigeria’s Petroleum sector, and

in furtherance of efforts to achieve greater transparency  and accountability in government.

The new management team now includes  Engr. Andrew Yakubu as Group Managing Director, Mr. Bernard O.N. Otti as Group Executive Director (Finance and Accounts), Engr. Abiye Membere as Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production), Dr. Peter S. Nmadu as Group Executive Director (Corporate Services), Engr. Anthony Ogbuigwe as Group Executive Director (Refineries & Petrochemicals), Dr. Attahir B. Yusuf as Group Executive Director (Commercial & Investments) and Dr. David Ige as Group Executive Director (Gas & Power).

The incoming Group Managing Director, Engr. Andrew Yakubu graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1979 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He joined the NNPC in 1980. Positions he has held in the corporation include Managing Director of the Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company and Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production). Engr. Yakubu is an indigene of Kaduna State and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

President Jonathan has also approved the appointment of Engr. Victor Briggs as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).

The incumbent Group Managing Director, Engr. Austen Oniwon, and Mr. Michael Arokodare (outgoing Group Executive Director (Finance and Accounts), Mr. Philip Chukwu, outgoing Group Executive Director (Refineries & Petrochemicals), and Engr. Billy Agha, outgoing Group Executive Director (Engineering & Technology) are to proceed on retirement.

President Jonathan commended the outgoing directors for their service to the nation and urges the new management team to be fully committed to rapidly implementing the critical interventions needed to positively transform Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

50 Cent was in a bad accident tonight as his bullet-proof SUV was rear-ended by a Mack truck on the LIE in NYC. He was put on a stretcher and taken to the nearest Queens hospital where they are currently running test on his neck and back. His driver is also currently in the hospital as the SUV almost flipped over.
